It’s finally here! The Swagtron T1 is the first UL 2272 certified Hoverboard on the market. It is the first of two brand new hoverboard models by Swagway, the company that brought you the Swagway X1. If you wanna know more about what is an hoverboard or how hoverboards work, check out our articles on those topics.
What does the UL 2272 certification mean for the Swagtron T1?
After the hoverboard fires that plagued the chinese-made hoverboards in the past, UL 2272 certification was put in place to make sure that these new gadgets are safe. ULStandards inspects hoverboards for construction quality and performance, and then carries out mechanical, electrical and environmental tests, to ensure that the hoverboard uses quality components that won’t cause any danger even if the battery is overcharged, or if the hoverboard is hit. For more info about the hoverboard fires, read our article about it.
The Swagtron T1 is the first hoverboard that’s available for purchase online to have met all the ULStandards’ requirements. So, if safety is your main concern, you can rest assured that this hoverboard is absolutely safe.

Safety
In the Swagtron T1 and T3 feature two new safety technologies developed by Swagway to make their boards the safest on the market. Let’s take a look at them:
Safe Stop Technology – This system aims to eliminate falls caused by the battery suddenly dying on you. What it does is it makes the hoverboard beep with a warning signal when it detects that the battery level is too low, and it limits the top speed of the hoverboard, so that if you do continue riding it, the sudden stop won’t be as jerky or sudden. This is a really nice feature that already saved us quite a few falls.
SentryShield – The Lithium-Ion batteries that the Swagtron uses are already safer than the batteries used by chinese companies, in that Swagway only uses high quality materials. On top of that, the Swagtron has enshrouded the batteries on the T1 and T3 in an aluminum casing which ensures that, even if the battery should fail or overcharge, it won’t catch on fire. This is an awesome feature for extra peace of mind.
What’s in the Box?
The Swagtron T1 does not come with a remote. Inside the box, you’ll find:
- The Swagtron T1 itself.
- A charging cord.
- The instructions manual.
- A couple Swagtron-branded silicone wheel arch protectors.
Returns / Warranty
The Swagtron comes with a limited 30-day return policy. The hoverboard though has to be unused and undamaged. Basically this only applies if you change your mind. And the standard 1 year warranty from Swagway only covers manufacturing defects. That’s why we recommend to purchase an external warranty plan to protect your investment in case you mess it up by riding it really hard. Which you will have to do to mess up this board: the hard ABS casing is one of the most durable we’ve tested, and the silicone protectors will stop most of the damage anyway. Also, the Safe Stop Technology basically eliminates the unexpected falls you get with other boards when the battery dies; in short, this thing is a work horse.
Ride Quality
The Swagtron T1 rides like a dream. Definitely the best hoverboard we’ve ever tested in terms of responsiveness, turning speed, and top speed. The ride is super smooth. Of course, the 6.5 inch wheels won’t go over big cracks or grass as easily as the 10 inch inflatable tires of a Skque hoverboard, but that’s to be expected. The ride is buttery smooth as the gyroscopes in the Swagtron T1 are top quality.
One thing to note, on the Swagtron T1, the LED lights should be facing forward, while the power button is on the back. It’s recommended to ride the hoverboard in the right orientation only.
Who’s the Swagtron T1 For?
The Swagtron, with its excellent handling, incredible safety features and really awesome weight limit of 220 lbs (100kg), is the ideal hoverboard for kids all the way up to adults. It’s fast as heck (8 mph – 12.8 km/h top speed!) but also very smooth and easy to control. The fast turning rates are the most impressive departure from the cheaper hoverboards you can find on the market: you’ll find yourself swerving nimbly and developing a much closer “feel” for the board while riding a Swagtron than any other board. While we don’t recommend it, we’ve seen people ride it down staircases, that’s how comfortable you can get riding it!
In Conclusion
Swagway has been one of the pioneering companies in the hoverboard game, and it’s still the top dog as far as we’re concerned. The introduction of the Swagtron T1 really made the hoverboard what it should’ve been in the first place, and we can’t recommend it enough!
The hard ABS casing is even more scratch resistant than the Swagway X1, and, if using the included silicon wheel arch protectors, the Swagtron is really the most durable hoverboard on the market. Just make sure that you don’t ride it too hard over big gaps or bumps, as that will scratch up the underside of the board, and potentially damage it.
Furthermore, with the awesome safety features that Swagway introduced, we consider the Swagtron the only hoverboard we would recommend to buy for your children.
P.S. The company has also announced another hoverboard, the Swagtron T3, which will feature bluetooth speakers, a built-in handle, and a pretty swanky new design. Stay tuned for our review of the T3, but in the meanwhile, you can pre-order it on eBay following this link.
