Is This Hoverboard Safe?
All the latest generation hoverboards that we recommend on BestElectricHoverboard have passed UL’s 2272 certification.
Why Does This Matter?
Having a UL2272 certification means that these hoverboards’ battery packs have been thoroughly tested. The high quality standards imposed by UL mean they’re completely safe from fires or explosions.
I Found a Cheaper Hoverboard Somewhere Else..
While it is possible to find a hoverboard for sale cheap, possibly even cheaper than the one we have recommended here, there are still a lot of hoverboards out there that are not UL2272 certified.
That’s not all…
Some manufacturers even go as far as claiming that their cheap hoverboards are UL2272 certified while they are not. They are shipped directly from China and are made with cheap components, which will mean possible fires in the future.
That’s the only reason why some people are still experiencing hoverboard fires. Those people bought a cheap hoverboard from China.
Here’s the deal…
The hoverboard featured here is the cheapest, SAFE, UL2272 certified hoverboard on the market.Should I Get One of Those Cheap Hoverboards on Amazon?
The long and short of it is, yes! There are some good companies on Amazon that sell legitimate hoverboards.
At the same time, though, you want to make sure that you’re getting a quality hoverboard. Amazon’s review system has been kinda broken for a while now, and many companies try to game the system.
We only recommend safe hoverboards for sale on Amazon, so you can get the best deal and be safe.
What are Some Alternatives to Get a Hoverboard Cheap?
The most obvious alternative would be a regular electric scooter (like a kick scooter). You could even go down the DIY route, although that’s for people with at least some experience with electronics.
What we DO NOT recommend is getting a hoverboard used. Hoverboards are pretty delicate and we’ve heard of a lot of people getting used hoverboards cheap that ended up malfunctioning.
Considering hoverboards are around 200 dollars these days, it’s just better to get a cheap new hoverboard.
Why do Hoverboard Prices Vary So Much?
As you’ll see on Amazon, prices for hoverboards vary quite a bit.
There are a few reasons for this.
Mainly, it depends on the components and the specs of your hoverboard: you can have smaller or bigger hoverboards, more or less powerful motors, larger or smaller battery capacities.
That’s why it’s important to make sure that your hoverboard fits your needs in terms of weight requirements, speed, etc.
The cheapest hoverboard may not always be the best choice, particularly if you want to go off-road or up steep hills.
Can You Get a Hoverboard Under $100?
Update: Lately we’ve received a ton of messages from people claiming that they found a hoverboard under 100 dollars.
Unfortunately—barring seasonal deals or sales—the only way to get a hoverboard that cheap is to make your own.
