The Powerboard by Hoverboard is the new hoverboard which is UL 2272 & certified as safe! They were among the first companies to obtain this safety certification for their hoverboards, and I could not wait to test it out!
In addition, the Powerboard also comes with a 1 year warranty. They are a U.S based company with U.S based customer service agents. Should something go wrong with your Powerboard, it won’t be a major pain like it can be with other companies.
Unpacking the Powerboard
Our Powerboard arrived quickly, and came nicely packaged inside a box within the shipping container. The Box contains the Powerboard, the charger, and an instruction manual. I found the instructions super easy to follow, and the manual is very short.
The Powerboard comes already charged partway, but we recommend charging it for a few hours before the first use. We plugged in our Powerboard as soon as it arrived and left it overnight. When the hoverboard is charged, a green LED battery light will come on indicating it’s ready to go.
Using the Powerboard
The Powerboard feels much sturdier than other hoverboards we have tried in the past. It’s hard to say if it’s because of our experience riding hoverboards at this point, but we all got our balance very quickly using this hoverboard.
The office here has hardwood floors, which makes it a great place to practice since it’s an open space with smooth floors. We started by pacing back and forth in a straight path and noticed how smooth the acceleration is. The powerboard has a top speed of up to 6.5 miles per hour until the built-in safety limiter kicks in to keep you at safe speeds. The new UL certified boards are all slower than the unlimited Chinese boards that used to catch on fire. We’re guessing this is because the battery pack gets hot when letting the motors drain as much juice as they can, so a simple way to make the hoverboards safer is to just limit the top speed.
Like every hoverboard, speeding up is super simple, just lean forward more, and lean back to the center of the board to slow down.
After that we practiced spinning circles, and then took it outside. Drifting corners is definitely possible and, interestingly, it is much easier to turn at higher speeds with the Powerboard than it is going slower. But all in all, while some other hoverboards do not feel very sturdy when turning corners, the Powerboard handles great.
We did bump into a few curbs while outside, but the Powerboard seemed fine. The plastic seems very durable, although we’d still recommend some rubber strips to protect your hoverboard. The battery life was impressive: we played around with our Powerboard for about 6 hours before the battery died.
